Billy Joe Saunders claims WBO super middleweight title (VIDEO)

Billy Joe Saunders (28-0-0) is the new WBO world super middleweight champion following a UD win over Shefat Isufi (27-4-2). The Brit is now a two-weight champion, having held previously the WBO middleweight belt.

“Superb” deserved to win the recently vacated WBO strap, but it wasn’t a top-notch performance by the unbeaten Saunders. The judges scored the fight 120-108, 117-111, and 118-110.

Isufi, 29, rocked his adversary in the sixth round, but apart from that, he didn’t do anything special. The German had no answer for Saunder’s southpaw stance and most of the time he was fighting on his back foot. Saunders was controlling the pace and the distance of the fight throughout the majority of rounds but failed to deliver KO which was necessary for him.
