Bust dedicated to sambo founder unveiled in Novosibirsk

A bust of Vasily Oshchepkov, one of the founders of Sambo, was unveiled in Novosibirsk, Russia.

The special ceremony was attended by officials from the Russian Sambo Federation.

Aleksandr Karelin, a triple Olympic gold medallist in wrestling and now a Russian senator, was present at the event as he also gave a speech.

Yesterday another Sambo statue was revealed at the Luzhniki Sports Complex in Moscow. November 16 is the International Sambo Day.

This one was a tribute to Oshchepkov and the two other founders of the martial discipline – Victor Spiridonov and Anatol Kharlampiev.
