Jessie Vargas: I’m faster and more technical than Mikey Garcia

Former super lightweight world champion Jessie Vargas (29-2-2) is pretty confident he posses the better tools than his next opponent Mikey Garcia (39-1).

The two are set to fight on February 29 in the US.

“My technique and speed are going to be a key factor and benefit for me. I feel that I’m the faster fighter, and I have to use that to my advantage,” Vargas told BoxingScene.com in an interview.

“I have to make sure to use my size advantage … I have to make sure to fight my fight and not pay attention to how other fighters fought him. Styles make fights, but I will look at some tape to capitalize on his mistakes.”

Garcia, 32, hasn’t fought since March 2019 when he moved up two divisions to face Errol Spence Jr. only to lose by a UD.

Now the much smaller Mikey is in a similar position to his previous fight, as Vargas is the taller fighter, plus he knows how to fight both on the inside and the outside.

“Whoever is victorious will have big things ahead of them, and I plan to be that man, and get a world title shot after it,” said Vargas. “This fight is going to elevate both of our games. I just have to work really hard. The sky’s the limit.”
