Manny Pacquiao plans spring return, wants Danny or Mikey Garcia

After a successful 2019 that saw him claim victories over Adrien Broner and Keith Thurman, Manny Pacquiao has plans to return in “late March or April,” according to Sean Gibbons. In his sights are former champions Danny and Mikey Garcia.

Both of the Garcias are currently in the midst of prolonged inactivity and could certainly use a big-name fight. Danny (35-2, 21 KO) has fought just once in the past 14 months, a one-sided mauling of Adrian Granados in April, and hasn’t competed more than twice in a calendar year since 2012. He’s currently Errol Spence Jr.’s mandatory challenger, but with the WBC/IBF champ on the mend, I doubt he’d be too put out by going for the WBA “super” title instead.

Mikey (39-1, 30 KO) is one of the most talented boxers of his size this generation, but recently saw his momentum sputter after an ill-advised attempt to challenge Spence in March resulted in a twelve-round schooling. He’s clearly not built for the welterweight division, but Pacquiao is nobody’s idea of a big 147-pounder, so there’s still some intrigue there.
