Max Holloway advises fighters to stop sparring

Former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway is fresh off from one of his most dominating performances ever. “Blessed” dominated Calvin Kattar this past Saturday night at Fight Island 7 in Abu Dhabi, making a strong case for a trilogy fight with the current king Alexander Volkanovski.

Holloway destroyed Kattar for five rounds, controlling everything from the opening to the final buzzer. The victory is even more impressive when you add the fact that Holloway almost never does sparring. At least that’s what he claims.

After the fight, the 29-year-old fighter had this advice for his fighting peers:

“Save y’all chickens right here,” Max Holloway said at the post-fight press conference.

“You guys only get one brain. Save it. You guys don’t need to do it. You sparred enough. You trained enough. You know how to punch someone. You know how to slip a punch. Why even take unnecessary damage before the main game, you know? That’s just the way I think. And everybody who keep telling me that I should be training, no! I have been training, baby!

“Please, protect you guys’ heads. If I got to tell an up-and-comer coming: be smart. Figure out a way of taking less damage. You want to be in this game for a long time.”
