Pacquiao vs Garcia: Golden Boy’s Eric Gomez says fight won’t happen

Despite all of the talk lately of a potential fight between lightweight Ryan Garcia and Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao, don’t get your hopes up. Golden Boy president Eric Gomez has publicly come out to tell ESPN that the fight isn’t really in the cards for his young star, despite Garcia’s expressed interest:

“There’s nothing to talk about there. They contacted us, but it turns out there’s nothing to talk about. That fight isn’t going to happen.”

Some of Garcia’s representatives say they’re still exploring the idea of putting that fight together, but Golden Boy doesn’t see that as a realistic possibility, and instead say that it’s much more possible that Garcia takes on Teofimo Lopez after a recent meeting with Top Rank’s Bob Arum:

“Teofimo is more feasible. It’s one of the fights that’s obviously of interest to Ryan Garcia. It could be a great fight.”

Garcia, 22, is coming off a big statement win with a knockout over Luke Campbell last month and has since been talking up a potential fight against media rival Gervonta Davis. And just when it appeared that maybe there was some traction there, Garcia shifted his attention to Pacquiao. But with Golden Boy seemingly not interested in backing that fight, Garcia just might have to look elsewhere, with there being no clear indication on where Garcia will go from here.
