The World SAMBO Cup “Kharlampiev Memorial” will be staged in Moscow

The World Sambo Cup “A. Kharlampiev Memorial” will be staged in Moscow on March 22-23 in Olympic complex LUZHNIKY – Smaller sports complex.

The tournament takes an important place in the international sports calendar and it’s a way of paying honor to one of the founders of the sport – Anatoly Kharlampiev.

The tournament was established in 1980, the year of the Olympics in Moscow, and was staged on October 10-11 in “DRUZHBA” Universal Sports Arena.

Since 2009 “A. Kharlampiev Memorial” had been the prestigious World SAMBO Cup Stage. After 2015, the tournament became an official World SAMBO Cup.

More than 250 sambo athletes from 21 countries will take part in the competitions: Armenia, Belarus, Hungary, Venezuela, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Cuba, Cameroon, Kazakhstan, Korea, Moldova, Morocco, Netherlands, Russia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and the Philippines.

The World Cup will be conducted in nine weight categories among men, nine categories among women and nine categories in Combat SAMBO. In the opening day, the traditional laying of flowers will take place at the monument to Anatoly Kharlampiev in the Novodevichy Cemetery.
