Linda Morais crowned Canada’s Female Wrestler of the Year

The 2019 world wrestling champion in the women’s -59 kg category – Linda Morais, has been crowned the 2019 Canada’s Female Wrestler of 2019.

The 26-year-old, who trains with the Montreal Wrestling Club, defeated Lubov Ovcharova of Russia in the gold medal match with a pin to claim victory.

Darthe Capellan has been awarded Canada’s Male Wrestler of the Year, as the freestyler captured bronze in the -59 kg category at the Pan American Games last year.

In the past, the Wrestler of the Year awards were being awarded at the Canadian Championships the following year. Due to safety concerns surrounding the spread of the COVID-19 virus, both Canadian Championship events were canceled.
