Oscar De La Hoya talks difficulty in securing Canelo Alvarez opponent

In this video interview with Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya and Chris Mannix, De La Hoya gets into the current status for Canelo’s presumed September fight date and why things haven’t been easy in nailing down an opponent. Check out some of what he had to say.

“We have pending meetings this week. We are working every single day — day in and day out — to get this done…fighters these days, they price themselves out because they don’t wanna fight. They price themselves out because they have advisers whispering in their ears that they’re worth more than what they really are.

“The fact that you fight Canelo doesn’t mean you should be making triple or quadruple the money you’re making now. And you have to take into consideration the pandemic. It’s different times now and fighters have to realize they have to take pay cuts. And so it’s been a very difficult process but we feel very confident that we’ll have something in writing, something nailed down within the next few days.
